To honor the 30th anniversary of Pac Mac, argueably the most popular early video arcade game, Google has turned its logo into a playable, mini-Pac Man game.
Just go to Google, click the "insert coin" button and start to play. For the real effect, make sure your sound is turned up.

According to CareerBuilder’s Halloween survey conducted among more than 4,000 workers, nearly one-in-five (18%) workers describe their workplace as scary.
Some workers think their workplace is scary because their bosses bear a strong resemblance to famous Halloween characters. When asked which popular characters best reflect their boss’s behavior, workers said the following:
Glenda the Good Witch, liked and respected by all - 20%
The Wolf Man, fine one minute, howling the next - 11%
The Invisible Man, never around - 10%
Casper the Friendly Ghost, eager to help, but often misunderstood - 9%
Dracula, constantly sucking the life right out of you - 6%
Wicked Witch of the West, conniving and sending out minions to do his/her dirty work - 5%
The Mummy, slow-moving and has an ancient thought process - 4%
Grim Reaper, constantly delivers bad news and inspires fear among workers - 3%
Frankenstein, green with envy - 1%
In addition to spooky bosses, when asked what the scariest part of their job was, workers reported the following fear-inducing activities:
Workload - 18%
Performance reviews - 9%
Tight deadlines - 9%
Hours worked - 8%
Their boss or supervisor - 7%
Sitting through meetings - 6%
Hm. I wonder how the Technology Department staff would describe me as a boss. I have my suspicions....

Bing Jingle, Not So Good
A few weeks ago, we reported that Microsoft had launched a contest for a jingle about Bing – the company’s new search engine. The winning jingle would bring the creator $500.
The company has just announced the winner and, according to TechCrunch, "as bad as the jingle is, the video is much, much worse. It’s some guy in pajama pants doing really bad interpretive dance nonsense with awful effects and a Bing backdrop."
Take a look for yourself. It is awful. It looks like those voting for the videos might have had a little fun with Microsoft.

Fun Friday: Kevin Spacey Teaches Dave Letterman about Twitter
Actor Kevin Spacey introduced Dave Letterman to Twitter on July 21. Letterman, in his usual way, dismissed Twitter as "a waste of time." Writes Twitter founder Biz Stone on the Twitter blog: "That's generally how Twitter was characterized in 2007 so Dave's only two years behind — we'll give him a little more time to catch up."

"Robot Messenger Displays Person-to-Person Notes In PublicTo aid persons who wish to make or cancel appointments or inform friends of their whereabouts, a robot message carrier has been introduced in London, England.
Known as the “notificator,” the new machine is installed in streets, stores, railroad stations or other public places where individuals may leave messages for friends.
The user walks up on a small platform in front of the machine, writes a brief message on a continuous strip of paper and drops a coin in the slot. The inscription moves up behind a glass panel where it remains in public view for at least two hours so that the person for whom it is intended may have sufficient time to observe the note at the appointed place. The machine is similar in appearance to a candy-vending device."

Watch a 1994 television news story where Tom Brokaw discuss the Internet with Google's Eric Schmidt (then at Sun) and Microsoft's Bill Gates. My favorite part is right at the end when Gates says, "It's a long ways away before you have a flat screen that's as small and light as that book is today." No wonder Amazon beat Microsoft to the Kindle. Interesting

A 16-year-old intern at the German media agency, Blanko, has created a coffee machine that tweets, on the micro-blogging site Twiitter.com.
The intern mounted a web camera on the coffee machine, focused on the machine’s digital display. When the display changes, the image is photographed, and compared to a database of phrases. The matching phrase is then entered into a Twitter account and posted under #blankomat, in German, of course.
Recent tweets have included: 1 KAFFEE (1 coffee), SCHALE LEEREN (flat emptying), SCHALE FEHLT(flat one is missing), and WASSERTANK FÜLLEN (water tank filling).

Talketh Like Shakespeare on April 23
The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is asking everyone to talk like William Shakespeare on April 23, in honor of the Bard’s 445th birthday. Shakespeare coined more than 1,700 words still in use in modern English and his plays influence the way we think about the world in which we live.Not sure how to talk like Shakespeare? Here are some tips, courtesy of the Theater group:
- Instead of you, say thou. Instead of y’all, say thee.
- Rhymed couplets are all the rage.
- Men are Sirrah, ladies are Mistress, and your friends are all called Cousin.
- Instead of cursing, try calling your tormentors jackanapes or canker-blossoms or poisonous bunch-back’d toads.
- Don’t waste time saying "it," just use the letter "t" (’tis, t’will, I’ll do’t).
- Verse for lovers, prose for ruffians, songs for clowns.
- When in doubt, add the letters "eth" to the end of verbs (he runneth, he trippeth, he falleth).
- To add weight to your opinions, try starting them with methinks, mayhaps, in sooth or wherefore.
- When wooing ladies: try comparing her to a summer’s day. If that fails, say "Get thee to a nunnery!"
- When wooing lads: try dressing up like a man. If that fails, throw him in the Tower, banish his friends and claim the throne.
In addition, message any modern phrase to "ShakespeareSays" on Twitter, and it will be posted on the site what it would have sounded like four hundred years ago.

Cowabunga! The Simpsons to Be Featured on Postage Stamps
The United States Postal Service has just announced that it is releasing a set of first-class postage stamps featuring Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie Simpson on May 7.
That's right: The stars of he longest-running comedy in television history will soon adorn the corner of your snail mail in a spot once reserved for the likenesses of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln.
The Simpsons are one of the 20 subjects featured on stamps this year. They were chosen from 50,000 suggestions that the USPS received. The television show, now in its 20th season, is the only show to be featured as the sole subject of a stamp set while still in primetime production.
“We are excited to celebrate The Simpsons on postage stamps,” said USPS Executive Director of Stamp Services David Failor. “[T]his witty, well-written pop icon continues to irreverently satire its parody of a middle-class family as it lampoons American culture. The Simpsons stamps… will serve as a great opportunity to interest youngsters into stamp collecting.”
“This is the biggest and most adhesive honor The Simpsons has ever received,” said Matt Groening, creator and executive producer of The Simpsons.
“We are emotionally moved by the Postal Service selecting us rather than making the lazy choice of someone who has benefited society,” said James L. Brooks, executive producer of The Simpsons.
For some reason, as part of the stamp release, the USPS is encouraging you to vote for your favorite Simpson.
